Nigerian singer Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as B-Red, has spoken in defence of the Osun State airport project being executed by his father, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
B-Red said the project was meant to ease movement for residents of the state and support development, dismissing claims that it was a waste of public funds.
He made the remarks during a live stream hosted by content creator Carter Efe.
“My father, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is building Osun State’s first airport so people won’t have to go to Lagos just to fly. We’re not taking from the people, we’re helping them,” he said.
Reacting to accusations of corruption and excessive government spending, the singer said his personal movement showed there was nothing to hide.
“The convoy that brought me here was just two cars. If we were embezzling money, I’d be moving with 20 cars by now,” he added.
The airport project has attracted public debate in recent months.
The original airport site was located in Ido-Osun, where past administrations reportedly invested over N20bn in the project.
However, in late 2024, the Adeleke administration announced plans to relocate the airport to Ede, the governor’s hometown, citing technical challenges at the original location.
The proposed relocation sparked protests from residents of Ido-Osun, who accused the government of nepotism and petitioned President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
In December 2024, the Federal Ministry of Aviation suspended the foundation-laying ceremony for the new site following petitions over alleged waste of resources and community opposition.
Despite the controversy, B-Red maintained that the airport project was designed to serve the interest of Osun residents and improve access to air travel in the state.
