Popular Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, known as Davido, has said that his father still gives him money, despite his success in music.
In a recent interview on Club Radio to promote his upcoming album 5ive, the Afrobeats star said, “If I tell you that my dad don’t give his kid money, I will be lying to you. My daddy still gives me cheque. I’m his baby.”
He also shared how his father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, surprised him after a show in Atlanta, United States.
“My dad came to my show in Atlanta. He said, ‘Amazing show, my son. Good job, good job,’ and then he wired me $300,000,” Davido said.
The music star has always spoken highly of his father’s support—both financially and emotionally.
In past interviews, Davido revealed that his dad once “bribed” him to return to school after he dropped out to focus on music. Chief Adeleke promised to build a modern music studio and fund his music videos if Davido agreed to attend lectures regularly.
This deal encouraged Davido to go back and complete his studies. He later earned a second-class upper degree in Music from Babcock University.
Also, early in his music journey, Davido’s father bought him out of his first contract with Black Diamond Promotions. Chief Adeleke made that move after hearing Davido’s breakout song, Dami Duro, and wanted his son to have full control of his music career.
Today, Davido is one of Africa’s most successful musicians, but he says the support from his father remains strong.
“My dad is proud of me, and I’m proud to be his son,” he added.
