Musa’s Kano Pillars unveiling pathetic, shameful – Stakeholders

Nigerian football stakeholders have described Kano Pillars’ unveiling of Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, as shameful and pathetic.

This comes after sports-loving fans in Nigerian berated the elite Nigeria Professional Football League club for the poor unveiling of the former Leicester City man.

The 28-year-old’s return to his boyhood club would be vital to his form ahead of next year’s African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon, as he has been clubless since October 2020, after parting ways with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr by mutual consent.

According to The Punch, the former CSKA Moscow attacker penned a short-term deal with Pillars which would run until the end of the season. He is however has an option to move abroad if offers come.

The exciting news of Musa’s return to the club was marred by two poor unveilings; one in a badly lit room at the club office by Jambul, with no fanfare and media representation on Tuesday.

However, pictures from the second, by Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje at the State House last Friday, did not make it to the Eagles skipper’s social media account.

Reacting to the unveiling,  ex-NPFL chairman Rumson Baribote said, “Musa should have dressed in the official colour of the club and he should have been unveiled by the club chairman and not the Governor. They did not follow the right process, they got carried away by the calibre of the player joining the team.”

“The unveiling of Musa at Kano Pillars shows we don’t have a brand culture in Nigeria. It could have been done differently,” former Gombe State FA boss Gara Gombe added.

Former media officer of the U-23 team Shariff Abdallah added, “It’s pathetic. But what else can you do about a situation when your hands are tight. You just can’t remedy the situation.”

“This is a classic case of how not to unveil a player, especially a top player like the national team captain,” Enitan Obadina, a journalist, said. “Everything around the whole exercise was quite shameful. I hear they (Pillars) are planning another unveiling ceremony after all the backlash. It is better they do that to redeem whatever is left of their pride.”
