MultiChoice South Africa has announced a price adjustment for its DStv and Showmax services, set to take effect from April 1, 2025.
According to a report on Monday, the company stated that monthly subscription fees for various DStv packages, including Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access, will increase.
The access fee for satellite services will also rise, while the EasyView package will see a slight adjustment.
However, in a rare price reduction, the DStv Add Movies package will drop from R79 (N6,733) to R49 (N4,176) per month.
The company also introduced changes to its Showmax streaming service, with some categories maintaining their current prices, while others, including Showmax Premier League, Showmax Entertainment Mobile, and Showmax Entertainment plus Football, will see increases.
MultiChoice stated that further price changes may be necessary due to South Africa’s value-added tax (VAT) increase from 15% to 15.5%, set to take effect from May 1.
The company assured subscribers that they would be informed of the impact of this adjustment in April.
CEO of MultiChoice South Africa, Byron Du Plessis, explained that the pricing review was carried out with consumer affordability in mind.
He noted that despite economic pressures, the company aimed to enhance value across its packages, with some products not experiencing any price hikes.
This announcement follows a similar development in Nigeria, where MultiChoice recently increased subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages, a move that sparked reactions from Nigerian customers.
The adjustments reflect the broader financial realities affecting the pay-TV industry as operators navigate rising operational costs while maintaining service quality.
