Mr Macaroni, Aisha Yesufu, fans react to Sound Sultan’s death

It is a gloomy Sunday as fans, friends, and well-wishers reacted to the heartbreaking news of the death of Nigerian music star, Olanrewaju Fasasi popularly known as Sound Sultan.

He died at the age of 44 after a battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma.

His death was received with shock by his colleagues in the entertainment industry.

Comedian Mr Macaroni said, “This is so painful. Rest In Peace Legend!! May God grant his family, friends, and fans worldwide the fortitude to bear this tragic loss.”

Singer Nikki Laoye who found the news hard to believe wrote on the singer’s IG comment section, “My brother, gosh, pls say something. Hope this isn’t true. We still chatted recently.”

On Twitter, Blogger Japhet Omojuwa who described the news as “terrible”, wished his family ‘love and prayers’.

He said, “Such a sad thing to wake up to, the passing of Sound Sultan. He was a class act through and through. May his soul rest in peace. Love and prayers to everyone he left behind. Terrible news.”

“Really terrible news about Sound Sultan, may his soul rest in peace. A true legend. One of the first celebrities to come out for the first #EnddSARS protest. Amazing man wow,” Leo DaSilva tweeted.

Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu described the artiste’s death as heartbreaking.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun. I just came on Twitter and the first thing I saw is “Rest in peace Sound Sultan”. Oh No!

“Innalillahi wa Inna ilayhi rajiun. May Aljanna Firdaus be your final abode, Sound Sultan. May the sickness be kaffarah for you. May God give your family the fortitude to bear the loss. Kai! This is heartbreaking! Innalillahi wa Inna ilayhi rajiun,” she tweeted.

Lawmaker, Oloye Akin Alabi also expressed shock at the news. He wrote, “The news of the death of Sound Sultan shocked my whole being. Great all-around guy. Too early to leave this earth. A very bad day.”

Host of Big Brother Naija, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu in a tweet also mourned Sound Sultan.

“You need to emit a certain type of positive energy into the system so you can get it back.” -Sound Sultan, Ebuka tweeted.
