Popular Nigerian singer and Grammy winner Tems has responded sharply to online comments about her body, telling critics to stop focusing on her physical appearance.

The backlash began after a user on X (formerly Twitter), with the handle Fisayyy, posted, “Real one knows she just have big laps not actual ass.”

Tems did not hold back in her reply. In a post that quickly went viral, she wrote, “Okay 7 years in. It’s time to pack it up. I never thought I’d need to say it but you are all weird. ‘It’s small, it’s flat, it’s fat.’ Dog ITS MINE. ‘Show us your bumbum’ lol so me too I will turn and say ‘see’ Nah show ME yours first?? See how that feels?”

She added, “It’s just a body. I will add and lose weight. I never once hid my body, I just didn’t feel the need to prove or disprove anyone. The more you don’t like my body the better for me actually. But it’s enough now. Move on from my bum.”

The singer’s comments sparked strong reactions online, with many fans and celebrities supporting her for speaking up against body shaming.

One user commented, “Tems handled that with grace and fire. Her confidence is inspiring.”

A user, MALIK , wrote: “Una don finally make her state Tems & Conditions 😔”

Another user, AlayeNG, criticized Tems’s choice of outfits, saying:
“You never should have started opening your body in the first place. You would have had the same aura as Asa, Sade, Adele. But you reduced yourself to please the audience. Well, that’s what you get.”

But others rushed to defend her. Muyiwa Awoniyi wrote: “No single sense do they have on this app. Not even half a sense.”

Duke of Africa added: “You have spoken well. Like you said, it’s just adipose tissues. It increases and decreases with time. Stop objectifying women.”

Still, some comments mixed humor with admiration.

Mibanti said, “Moving on from your bum is literally moving on from you.”

Mike Okon  joked, “Move on from your bum ke, abeg oh, na there my Nivea dey finish.”

Jay offered support, saying, “I promise you my queen I will take care of him for you, no one should ever put their lips together to insult you ever again.”

Big Lummy asked, “What inspired Not an Angel track?”

Meanwhile, some took a different tone. @societyhatesjay tweeted:
“Too much explanation for wetin you fit book Uber come my side comot shokoto show me.”

Tems has spoken about her body before. During a recent interview with Cocoa Butter in Atlanta, Georgia, she was asked what she loved most about being a Black woman.

“I love being curvy. I love that I have a little booty, you know what I’m saying?” she said with a smile.

The 29-year-old singer said she is proud of her figure and described it as a blessing. Her recent posts continue to highlight her stance on body positivity and self-acceptance.
