Mourinho to get extra £10m from Tottenham for signing Roma contract
Former Tottenham manager, Jose Mourinho, is reportedly entitled to the sum of £1m from his previous employers for signing a deal with the Italian side, Roma.
Having joined Spurs 17 months ago as a replacement to Mauricio Pochettino, The UK Sun reported that part of his severance pay with Daniel Levy guaranteed the payment of the shortfall in his salary, provided he takes a new job which pays him less than Tottenham before the end of his contract next summer.
The Portuguese, who was fired before the end of his contract at the North London club, bagged a three-year deal with the Roma worth £5m a year, £10m less than his pay at Spurs, 15 days after his sack.
As a result, the former Manchester United manager would receive £5m when he begins a new life at the Stadio Olimpico this summer from Roma while he would be paid £10m next season by Tottenham.
WuzupNigeria reported that the former Real Madrid manager was officially announced as the new coach of Roma on Tuesday, replacing fellow Portuguese Paulo Fonseca.
Speaking to the club’s website following his appointment, Mourinho said, “Thank you to the Friedkin family for choosing me to lead this great club and to be part of their vision.
“After meetings with the ownership and Tiago Pinto, I immediately understood the full extent of their ambitions for AS Roma. It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build a winning project over the upcoming years.
“The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season.
“In the meantime, I wish Paulo Fonseca all the best and I hope the media appreciate that I will only speak further in due course. Daje Roma!”
