Over the years, there have been debates on how far a graduate can go in Nigeria with a third class or pass certificate.
It is believed that getting a good job in Nigeria with a third class grade could be as difficult as the camel passing through the hole of a needle as employers don’t give room for third class graduates during a recruitment exercise.
But a Nigerian female software developer Faridah Kabir, who sits atop a software developing company as its Cheif Executive Officer, has an inspiring story to share.
She took to Twitter to share how she rose above the stigma attached to graduating with a third class grade from the university and it passes as a good story for Monday motivation for those struggling with their grades in the tertiary institution,
Her story resonates hope for those who graduate with a third class grade in Nigeria.
Farida, the CEO of OTRAC Nigeria, an e-learning platform for African Health Practitioners, revealed how she has been able to live above her university certificate which she said has not limited her from attaining success.
She wrote
“I graduated with a 3rd class. I employ people with 1st class and pay salaries. I earn what people with 1st class can’t even imagine earning. I have influence that 1st class people leverage on to help facilitate their wants. I’ve never used the 3rd class cert for anything above.”
Farida further explained that she used to think graduating with a third class is the end of the world, advised Nigerians to stop shaming third class graduates.
She added
“Apparently, some people are triggered by this tweet because they couldn’t comprehend English. To break it down, your class of degree or certificate doesn’t determine your success in life. You can graduate with 1st class and be the most successful person on earth or vice versa
“You can also graduate with 3rd class and be the most successful person in life or vice versa. What you people need to stop doing is shaming people that graduated with 3rd class. Follow
@OgbeniDipo to learn about career please.“I used to think 3rd class was the end of the world but look where I’m at in life. My class of degree motivated me to be better. I graduated top of my class in software development and again, the certificate didn’t do anything with respect to getting a job.
“It was purely about my capacity as a developer. I also employ based on that. This 1st class-3rd class mentality is because our minds have been conditioned to see government employment as the goal of going to school.”
She, however, advised social media users not to take her story as a justification for not putting in their best to academic activities.
“Nonetheless, this doesn’t justify not paying attention to your course work in school,” Farida said.
