The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed intentions to conduct an independent autopsy and toxicology test to ascertain the cause of his death.
In an exclusive conversation with PUNCH Online, Monisola Odumosu, head of the family’s legal team, disclosed the plan to file an application at the Lagos State High Court to initiate the process.
“We are already preparing our document to go to the High Court so that we can ask for permission to organize our own autopsy and toxicology test,” Odumosu stated.
The decision comes as the family deemed the government-led test too sluggish and expressed concerns about the autopsy process. Odumosu highlighted the absence of a family representative with expertise during the post-mortem.
“We feel the government is too slow,” Odumosu expressed. “When the autopsy was being conducted, representatives of the family should be someone who is well informed… But they just called anyone.”
Additionally, the family aims to confirm if the samples taken from Mohbad’s body align with those sent for toxicology tests in the US. The separate examination will also take place in the United States.
“We don’t want to wait till when that has happened before we think of doing our test and discover that nothing was found,” Odumosu added.
Mohbad, who passed away on September 12 at the age of 27, left behind a shroud of controversy surrounding his demise, spurring intense discussions on social media.
His former record label, Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, faced scrutiny following his death. The Lagos State Police Command launched a special investigation team to probe the incident, leading to the arrest of several individuals, including Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu.
Mohbad’s body was exhumed for autopsy on September 21, 2023, after his father insisted that nobody should bury his son without his authorization.
