Controversial Lagos socialite and music promoter, Sam Larry, has spoken publicly for the first time since the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad, addressing long-standing allegations in a new viral interview with activist and social commentator VeryDarkMan.
The interview, which surfaced online on Saturday, June 28, 2025, has reignited public outrage and debate on social media.
Sam Larry and Marlian Music head, Naira Marley, have both faced public scrutiny following Mohbad’s death in September 2023, with many accusing them of being involved in the young artiste’s troubled final days. In the interview, Sam Larry dismissed claims that he ever bullied Mohbad, maintaining that the accusations were based on false narratives.
Instead, Sam Larry argued that the story surrounding Mohbad’s death had been deliberately distorted by people who, according to him, never supported the singer while he was alive.
During the interview, he also made claims regarding a financial dispute with the late artist. Sam Larry said Mohbad owed him ₦2 million related to a joint birthday performance the singer had committed to earlier in the year. According to him, Mohbad proposed the idea of combining their birthdays and even sent his account number to receive payment for the show, but ultimately failed to appear.
He stated: “His birthday was January 4, mine was January 7. He told me to merge the shows and collect an appearance fee. He got paid but never showed up.”
Despite the controversies, Sam Larry maintained that he bore no ill will toward the singer and expressed sorrow over his death. He also claimed he was not in the country when the incident occurred.
He said: “Yes, I miss him. He was a good boy. All these people shouting ‘Justice for Mohbad’ didn’t even support his music when he was alive. I carried his career on my head. I took him everywhere.”
The interview has stirred mixed reactions online, with some calling for renewed investigations, while others continue to demand justice for Mohbad.
