Popular Nigerian singer and Marlian record label owner, Afeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, has issued a legal threat against Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.

In a letter circulated by Naira Marley’s legal representatives on Wednesday, the singer accused Iyabo Ojo of disseminating false and damaging content about him on her Instagram page.

The letter, represented by Olalekan Ojo (SAN) & Co on behalf of Naira Marley, claimed that in a post made by Iyabo in September 2023, she accused Naira Marley of engaging in spiritual and physical dealings with the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Additionally, it was asserted that the actress accused Naira Marley of causing mental harm to Mohbad, whom the singer described as a brother.

The legal representatives of Naira Marley demanded that Iyabo Ojo issue a public apology on her official Instagram account and in a national daily within seven days of receiving the letter.

“Without prejudice, our clients prosed claims against you, and in compliance of the Practice Direction of the High Court of Lagos State, which requires parties to first explore amicable means of settlement before instituting an action, our client is open to an amicable settlement of these issues. Our client, therefore, proposes that you communicate your terms towards an amicable resolution within seven (7) days of receipt of this letter, failing which, our client, would proceed to commence legal proceedings without further recourse to you,” the suit partly read.

Failure to comply with this request, as outlined in the letter, would result in legal proceedings being initiated against Iyabo Ojo, with a demand for damages amounting to N500 million.

The singer’s lawyers emphasized the seriousness of the allegations, asserting their commitment to seeking legal redress if an apology and retraction are not promptly issued.

This development comes a few weeks after Naira Marley and Sam Larry were released from police detention, and the legal action is seen as a response to what Naira Marley perceives as defamatory statements made by Iyabo Ojo.

The actress has not yet publicly responded to the legal threat.
