Mixed reactions trail Uche Jombo’s attack on Nollywood critics
Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo, has come under heavy criticism from fans for slamming Nigerians who see nothing inspiring or positive about Nollywood movies.
In a statement on her verified Twitter handle on Saturday, the actress questioned the audacity of some critics who declared publicly to people in the movie industry that they do not watch their movies.
“I never understand the people that go out of their way to say “I don’t watch Nollywood films” to Nollywood peeps
Oga… No one asked!” she stated.
Jombo went further to say that such critics should keep their opinion about Nollywood to themselves.
“You can actually keep this bragging right to yourself,” she added.
Her comments obviously did not go down well with some Nigerians on the social media app.
@JulyJulliet3 said “Coming from someone that can’t create a content, let’s start from you writing a script of just 5 scenes. You just open your mouth waaaaaa.”
Another user, @daniel94560021 countered by boasting that “Nollywood remains the only made in Nigeria, consumed by Nigerians product.”
@KachiMicky advised Jombo and her colleagues to learn how to produce compelling movies to convince the watching public that they have come of age.
He said, “make una learn how to act na. we go watch am.”
A tweep, @Xspene96 added, “Not even a brag. Sometimes y’all movie is trashy asf. How do you expect someone to watch a movie that doesn’t teach or inspire someone’s life? Doesn’t make sense.”
Meanwhile, @Nwosutochukwu9 defended the Nollywood stars, saying “Cut them some slack…. There are a lot of Nollywood movies that inspires/Motivates People…”
This is just as @KMehel said “I recently realized how foolish and basic it makes one look. I appreciate the success and growth recorded in our industry, and I must Nollywood has come to stay. Keep up the good work.”
@Patosky100 told the actress that people do not watch Nollywood movies because they’re tired of seeing rubbish.
“People don’t watch our Nollywood movies …it’s not as if they are bragging but they are tired of seeing rubbish from this asaba movie guy and then they classify all Nollywood movies to be one ….but have actually watched so many Molly movies…very interesting.”
