The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops engaged in internal security operations across the country neutralized 82 terrorists and arrested 198 criminals within the past week.
In a statement released on Friday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Markus Kangye, revealed that troops also rescued 93 kidnapped victims while recovering 86 high-calibre weapons and 2,040 rounds of ammunition.
Additionally, 41 terrorists, including 10 men, 12 women, and 19 children, surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the North East.
In the Niger Delta, security forces intensified their crackdown on illegal oil activities, seizing crude oil and refined products valued at over ₦500 million, including 366,530 litres of stolen crude oil, 117,320 litres of illegally refined diesel, and 600 litres of kerosene.
Troops also destroyed 38 crude oil cooking ovens, 27 dugout pits, 22 boats, three speedboats, 60 storage tanks, 34 drums, and 32 illegal refining sites.
A total of 22 oil thieves were arrested, and 152 assorted arms and ammunition, along with five magazines, were recovered.
The military’s operations yielded a significant cache of weapons, including 46 AK-47 rifles, 18 locally fabricated guns, 19 Dane guns, and three pump-action guns.
Ammunition recovered includes 1,165 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 128 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 600 rounds of 7.62 x 12.7mm ammunition, and 51 cartridges.
The DHQ reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining national security and urged Nigerians to support the armed forces in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, and oil theft.
