Super Eagles icon, John obi Mikel has had his Al Kuwait SC contract terminated after just four months with the club.
The Brigadiers announced his contract termination on their social media account on Thursday, 4th November 2021.
Recall that the former Chelsea star, on 1 July 2021, cancelled his contract agreement with Stoke – with 12 months left on the contract after signing a new one-year deal which should end in the 2021-22 season – before moving to Kuwait SC.
Ironically, his contract with the club lasted only four months having played only five matches without featuring in their Premier League since he joined in the off-season.
However, the Kuwait based club did not disclose the reason behind their decision.
“Termination of the contract of the Nigerian John Obi Mikel,” the statement read.
The Kuwait club finished third in the Premier League last season behind Al-Qadsia and leaders Al-Arabi.
The termination means that Mikel will not able to fulfil his promise of helping them become successful in the new season that begins on November 21.
“I am very happy to sign for Kuwait SC, I thank the President of Kuwait SC for the trust that he has given to me to come to Kuwait.
“I promise to be on my best level to help the team to make sure that together as a team we can achieve a great season next year and hopefully we can be successful,” the Nigerian said after signing for the club back in July.
