Veteran broadcaster George Iniabasi Essien, popularly known as Mighty George, has officially earned a place in the Guinness World Records after hosting the longest radio talkshow marathon, clocking an unprecedented 105 hours on air.
Broadcasting live on Comfort FM, Uyo, from April 27 to May 1, 2025, George surpassed the previous record of 88 hours held by Japan’s Taishi Masuoka since 2017.
His record-breaking feat was marked by a continuous flow of conversations, interviews, and storytelling aimed at engaging, informing, and inspiring listeners.
Throughout the marathon, over 100 notable guests, including Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Bassey Eno, Pastor Abel Damina, commissioners, entertainers, and sports personalities, featured on the programme.
Discussions ranged from politics and governance to youth empowerment, mental health, and sports, reflecting both the depth and diversity of the record attempt.
For George, who serves as Head of Programmes at Comfort FM, the marathon marked a major milestone in his two-decade broadcasting career.
“I felt indescribable joy and fulfillment when I broke the record,” he said.
“This is the first individual Guinness World Record from Akwa Ibom and the first Nigerian record in broadcasting.”
At 43, Mighty George brings a wealth of experience and recognition to the airwaves. A two-time Nigerian Sports Journalist of the Year and the current NBC Presenter of the Year (Radio), he is also a renowned voice actor, compere, and stadium announcer for Nigeria’s national teams.
“This achievement is not just mine,” he said. “It’s proof that with love for your craft, faith and perseverance, anything is possible. I hope it inspires young broadcasters and creatives to aim for greatness.”
George’s achievement is being celebrated as a landmark moment for Akwa Ibom State and a new high point for Nigeria’s broadcasting industry on the global stage.
