Traffic flow has been restored in the Costain area of Lagos State after the successful evacuation of a fuel tanker that fell earlier on Tuesday.

The petrol-laden tanker fell while ascending the Costain bridge heading towards the Iponri area of the state, forcing operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency on to divert the traffic flow towards an alternative route.

However, hours after the Lagos State team of first responders including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Nigeria Police Force, the state and federal fire service, the fallen tanker was safely evacuated.

As of the time of filing this report, there were no reports of any causality at the scene of the incident.

Confirming the report, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Director-General, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the area was thoroughly covered.

“The LRT, alongside LASTMA, NPF, LAGS FIRE and Fed. Fire have concluded the operation. . The area has been thoroughly blanketed. Safety measures have been put in place to avoid the ignition of a fire.

“Transloading of the product to another tanker has been carried out and the fallen tanker removed.
The Agency’s Supermetro has removed the tanker and traffic flow has been restored. No further update,” he said.
