Three men dragged to court for biting Ekiti policeman, possession of charms

The Police in Ekiti State on Monday arraigned three accused persons, Owolabi Adeola, 20, Oyindamola Deborah, 23, and Oluwasegun Aso, 38, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of charms and assault.

The defendants, whose addresses were unknown, are facing three charges of obstruction of duty, possession of charms and assault.

The police prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the Court that the defendants committed the offences on April 10, at 5:30 p.m. in Iworoko-Ekiti.

Akinwale alleged that the defendants obstructed one Insp Omitogun Ayodeji and his team from performing their lawful duties.

He alleged that the defendants had in their possession ‘criminal’ charms.

He also alleged that the defendants assaulted one Cpl Olawumi Segun by biting him, while performing his lawful duty.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 131, 147(b) and 186 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the Court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr. Tunmise Akinwumi, urged the Court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000 each with one sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case to May 8 for hearing.
