Five killed, 40 injured as SUV rams into Christmas parade
A red Sport Utility Vehicle reportedly sped down the street hurling bodies in the air and narrowly missing a young girl before killing multiple people during a Christmas parade outside Milwaukee on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses who recounted the terrifying moment described the scene as disturbing.
Paradegoers remembered a frantic scene of 'crumpled' bodies, broken limbs, and 'fragments of brains' as many people were left dead or injured in the streets.
In another heart-stopping moment, a video from the scene showed a young girl dressed in all pink dancing to the music on the side of the street as the red SUV approaches at top speed behind her.
Thankfully, the car misses her by inches as the crowd screams.
Moments later, the car collided with the crowd, leaving five people dead and injuring 40, including several children who were rushed to six different hospitals in the area.
A person of interest is now in custody, according to police.
"We have a person of interest that we are looking into at this time," Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson told reporters. Thompson said that the SUV rammed into the crowd at 4:39pm local time - 39 minutes after the parade started.
