Suspected Boko Haram leader arrested in Ogun
Operatives of the Department of State Security Service reportedly arrested a suspected Boko Haram kingpin in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday night.
Although the general public awaits official confirmation of the arrest from the secret service, Daily Trust reported that the suspect was arrested in the Ijaye area of Abeokuta.
An unnamed security source quoted by the publication said that the suspect had moved to the state capital to ” set up terrorists’ cell for kidnapping and terror attacks.” and was arrested after the DSS caught wind of the information.
“The suspected terrorist reportedly arrived in Abeokuta from Katsina, and took up a security job at Ijaye, while gathering intelligence for terrorist attacks,” the publication added.
The source said, “It was not an easy ride. Intelligence and the grace of God were sufficient for the operatives. There are still many of them around, but we are on top of our game.”
Meanwhile, the DSS Spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, refused to comment on the development when contacted while the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he was not aware of any arrest.
