The Lagos State Police Command has arrested the two new converts declared wanted for the murder of a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Chapel of Resurrection to death.
WuzupNigeria reported that the fugitives killed Pastor Babatunde Dada on December 9 inside the church located on 13 Road, 6th Avenue, FESTAC Town, in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The assailants, according to reports, had responded to altar call a Sunday before the incident.
One of the assailants was reportedly arrested while the other was said to have fled to an unknown destination.
However, upon their arrest, the police revealed that the suspects were two minors, who claimed to be up-and-coming artistes.
The publication revealed that the suspects, Farouk, 15, and Jamiu, 17, were paraded on Friday by the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
According to the police, late Pastor Dada was attacked by the minors while trying to dispossess him of his valuables on the church premises in the Festac area of the state.
Recall that WuzupNigeria quoted a family member of the deceased who is also a security expert, Mr Abolarinwa Olatunbosun, as saying that the pastor was robbed by his assailants.
He said, “The pastor went to a bank to withdraw some money and went to rest on the first floor of the church. Two persons said to be new converts went to meet him upstairs, broke his head and killed him."
Odumosu added that the suspects, after allegedly perpetrating the crime, fled to an unknown destination, adding that they were arrested in their hideouts in Ilorin, Kwara State, and Festac area.
He said, “The duo of Farouk, 15 and Jamiu, stabbed and killed one Babatunde Dada, 46, inside a church where he worshipped. The deceased/victim, until his death, was a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Festac.
“The suspects, after committing the murderous act, absconded to unknown places. However, following intensive and discreet investigation, the two culprits were arrested in their hideouts. The suspects during interrogation confessed to have killed the victim with a bottle and a stick. The exhibits used in perpetuating the dastardly act were recovered.”
