An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Monday ordered that a motorcyclist, Tasiu Ganu, be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Service for allegedly beaten up his customer.
The police charged the defendant, who resides in Angwan Zango, Gwagwalada Abuja, with assault and theft.
The Judge, Sani Umar remanded the defendant following the injuries the complainant sustained as a result of the beating.
Umar adjourned the case until April 13, for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Hajara Abdullahi, reported the matter at the Gwagwalada Police Station on March 27.
Tanko explained that earlier that day, the complainant and her friend boarded the defendant’s motorcycle to St. Mary Hospital at a bargained price of N100.
He said that the complainant got to her destination, gave the defendant N200 and asked for her balance of N100 as agreed, but the defendant refused and started beating the complainant.
He also said that in the process, the N40,000 of the complainant, meant for her father’s hospital bill got missing.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 264 and 287 of the Penal Code.
