The 'VIP' in viral video of police officer carrying food tray, Nimota Akanbi, has spoken.
According to the Chairman of the Governing Board of National Secondary School Education, Nimota, the police orderly was carrying his own food at Kwara party.
Nimota said, “The truth is that I allowed him (police orderly) to pick his food. I am a teacher and disciplinarian.”
This comes on the heels of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters having opened an investigation after the policeman was seen carrying the food tray purportedly to be that of Nimota at an event in Kwara State.
The viral video of the yet-to-be-identified policeman sparked outrage on social media, forcing the police to summon the cop to the headquarters in Abuja, WuzupNigeria reported.
In a statement on Wednesday, the force's headquarters issued a warning to its operatives attached to Very Important Persons all over the country.
The Nigeria Police Force warned its operatives to stop serving purposes other than protecting prominent individuals from security threats.
Acting Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi told The PUNCH that the police officer, whom he refused to name, has been identified and summoned to Abuja.
“He (the policeman) has been identified. He is coming to Abuja to meet us. We’ll ask questions from him and take necessary action.
“We need to discourage such a thing because it is embarrassing the image of the Force and we can’t continue to be experiencing that kind of a thing because it is highly unprofessional.”
