Nigerians without NIN to be denied passports, drivers' licences - NCC warns
As the countdown to October 31 deadline continues, the Nigerian Communications Commission says those who failed to link their Subscriber Identity Modules to their National Identity Numbers won't be able to obtain relevant documents including drivers' licences and passports.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday by NCC Director of Public Affairs, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, who reiterated that the ultimatum for the linkage remains sacrosanct.
The statement read, “NCC has reminded and urged telecoms consumers to link their NINs with their SIMs before the expiration of the deadline of October 31, 2021 set by the Federal Government.
“Soon, people without NIN will be denied necessary services that play vital roles in their lives including acquisition of driving licence, passport.”
Recall that the Federal government had on December 15, 2020 ordered all telecommunication operators in the country to disconnect every SIM card not synchronized with valid National Identity Number by December 30th.
However, the deadline has been extended on a number of occasions following the apathy and lackadaisical attitude of some Nigerians towards the directive.
