The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday brought a charge of drug trafficking against a 54-year-old man, Abdulmalik Ahmadu.
The charge is before a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The defendant is accused of dealing in marijuana, which is restricted by law.
In the charge, the NDLEA alleged that the defendant committed the offence on January 21, at Obalende on Lagos island.
According to NDLEA counsel, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, a quantity of the substance weighing 17g was found on the defendant and seized.
He said that the defendant was consequently arrested.
According to the NDLEA, marijuana along with cocaine, heroin and other hard drugs, are prohibited.
The alleged offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004, which provides for up to life imprisonment on conviction.
No date has been fixed for arraignment of the defendant.
