Lagos resident stabs friend with jack-knife over misunderstanding

A 37-year-old man, Bababunmi Ositelu, on Friday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stabbing his friend on the neck.

Ositelu, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on four charges of causing grievous harm, wilful damage, breach of peace and unlawful display of arm.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 19 on Aina Street, Ojota, Lagos State.

He said that the defendant stabbed his friend, Mr. Bello Abideen, with a jack-knife following a misunderstanding.

Perezi added that the defendant wilfully damaged a pair of blue trousers worth $200 (N108,000) which Abideen was wearing.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by blocking Aina Street with his Toyota Prado and displaying a dangerous weapon,” he said.

He submitted that the Abideen was still receiving treatment in a hospital.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections, 51, 168, 245 and ,350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.M. Ajayi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must provide proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until April 27 for mention.
