Suspected bandits have assassinated the head of a Bororo village, Alhaji Alhaji Sheidu Madawaki, at Obuh Ruga cattle settlement, Oro Ago kingdom in Kwara South Senatorial District.
DAILY POST reported that the Bororo leader was attacked in his residence around 9.30pm on Sunday by unknown gunmen.
Sources said that the deceased had paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on August 23 to establish a synergy with the agency on how to improve and sustain the existing peaceful coexistence in the kingdom.
During his visit to the agency, late Sheidu stressed the need for protection of informants and was given an assurance by the civil defence corps.
However, residents of the community believe that the killing of the Bororo leader was likely due to his closeness with and his readiness to support security agencies to wipe out criminals in the area.
When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the development in a text message.
Ajayi further said the state Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, has ordered for a discreet investigation to be carried out immediately.
