There was panic on Sunday when unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers abducted a priest, Reverend Father Leo Raphael, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Sarkin Pawa area area of Niger State.

Eyewitnesses said that the armed gang also ambushed and whisked away an unspecified number of travellers on their way to Munya local government.

The travellers ran into some of the terrorists who had blocked the main road to Sarkin Pawa and abducted them.

When contacted, the Council Secretary of Munya local government, Mr James Jagaba, confirmed the incident.

Jagaba said communities in Munya have been experiencing an onslaught of terrorists for some days.

He said apart from Sarkin Pawa, other communities have been deserted by residents for fear of terror attacks.

The abduction is coming a week after the Governor visited the IDPs at the Gwada camp in Shiroro local government area where he assured they would return to their homes soon, The Nation reports.
