28-year-old apprentice arraigned over alleged burglary, phone theft

A 28-year-old fashion design apprentice, Kunke Ayenuro on Wednesday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged burglary and stealing a mobile phone valued at N150,000.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two charges bordering on burglary and stealing.

The Police prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant, on January 17 around 11.30 a.m., burgled the apartment of one Agnes Ikuejama at No. 15 Ola Ayeni Street, Okitipupa in Okitipupa Magisterial district.

He added that the defendant stole an Infinix Hot-8 Android phone valued at N150,000 and N100,000 cash, making a total of N250, 000.

Omoyeigha added that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Chris Ojuola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

He added that the sureties, who must reside within the court jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two-year tax payment made to the state government.

He adjourned the case until Febuary 28 for further hearing.
