Consumer protection: Jigawa seizes six bags of adulterated ‘zobo’ leaves

The Jigawa State Consumer Protection Committee says it has seized six bags of adulterated hibiscus, used for making local ‘zobo’ drink, at Gujungu market in Taura Local Government Area of the State.

The Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Faruq Abdallah, disclosed, on Monday in Dutse that the committee apprehended six traders in connection with circulation of the adulterated commodity.

Abdullah said the suspects were arrested during an unscheduled visit to the market, on Sunday, adding that they comprised three teenagers and three adults.

The chairman said that the suspects had been charged to court, and called on parents to monitor their children to ensure that they do not engage in such illegal practices.

He said that the commitment would not relent in its efforts to protect consumers and check circulation of adulterated food commodities, warning that defaulters would be prosecuted.
