2023: Step down for older aspirants, Amaechi urges Yahaya Bello
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi advised Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to withdraw from the All Progressives Congress’ presidential race to allow an older and experienced aspirant run.
Amaechi, who alongside former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, is vying for the APC presidential ticket in the primary holding this month made during his visit to Lokoja, the state capital, in his bid to woo delegates ahead of the presidential primary of the party.
Channels TV reported that the former Rivers State Governor acknowledged that Governor Bello is qualified for the race but noted that he is still young.
Speaking at the Government House, Amaechi offered to provide Bello with the needed experience in governance.
“This is the 28th state I will be visiting. I can no longer be called one of the APC aspirants because I have become the leading aspirant,” he said.
“I was Speaker at the age of 34, Governor at the age of 42, and a minister in my early 50s. I have acquired the needed experiences to lead Nigeria.
“I am a former Chairman of Speakers forum, two-term Chairman of Governorship forum, coupled with my interaction as Presidential DG campaign, I have what it takes to lead a country like ours.”
“I am aware that His Excellency is also a contestant, but I am the only leading contestant, older with more experience and I want to inform him that I will provide him with the necessary experience he needs to govern when the time comes,” he added.
