10 injured in bloody clash over road diversion in Plateau
No fewer than 10 people have been injured as Hausa Muslims and the native Anaguta community clashed over Zangam burial ground in Naraguta community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Although no casualties were recorded due to the swift intervention of security agents, The PUNCH reports that the violence which broke out on Monday evening lasted till Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the clash started when Hausa Muslims were restricting the native Anaguta community from using a road diversion at the burial ground, a development which the natives resisted leading to the clash
An eyewitness who confirmed the clashes between the two groups said, “There is a road that the native community usually passed but the road became bad which made them abandon it and started using a road diversion at the burial ground.
“So the Hausa Muslims who are living in the community started restricting people from using the route diversion but the native community resisted their actions What followed was that the two communities engaged themselves in a fight on Monday evening and continued the fight on Tuesday
“About ten people were attacked and injured during the violence. And Some of them were taken to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital and are currently receiving treatment”
Confirming the clash, the Councilor for Ahwol Ward in the community, Yusuf Ali, said that a quick intervention of the security agents saved the situation from further degeneration.
Ali said, “When the violence broke out between the two communities, we tried to talk to them but they did not listen. So we quickly called the security agents and their response saved the day. Although about ten persons were injured but the community is now calm.
“The Chairman of Jos North Local Government has also undertaken to effect repair on the bad road in the community. As am talking with you, the road is being graded so that the people can start using it ”
