Following the release of a Lifetime documentary titled “Surviving R. Kelly,” netizens have been arguing back and forth about the disturbing claims of ladies who were sexually abused by the singer.

In the series, the affected women claimed that they decided to speak out because of the trendy #MeToo movement and to protect women and girls who have been constant victims of sexual abuse.

However, there are new reports that R.Kelly and his younger brother were molested by their elder sister, Theresa Kelly, when they were growing up.

In an interview which surfaced online, the singer’s younger brother, Carey Kelly, explicitly revealed the details of their sexual abuse.

He said he and R.Kelly were just 6 and 10 years old respectively when their older sister molested them.

WuzupNaija gathered that R. Kelly had once hinted that he was sexually harassed until he was 14, by a very close family member, but he never gave details of his abuse.

It is interesting to note that shortly after the docu-series was released, a notable spike in Kelly’s music sale was witnessed despite Kelly saying he would go ahead to sue Lifetime for the docuseries.

According to The Blast, a representative of Spotify said that his songs listen increased by 16% on Thursday night alone after the first part of the series was aired.

Kelly had in 2018, released a 19-minute song titled I Admit where he addressed the allegations levelled against him.

In this song, he says that he “had to write a song about this, ’cause they always take my words and twist it” and he “never thought it would come to this, to be the most disrespected artist.”

In another song, his brother Carey accused him of impregnating their 14-year-old niece which Sparkle admitted to in the docuseries.

The singer who is one of the most successful R and B singers of all times has sadly become an object of scorn on social media and a subject of the #MeToo campaign.
