Prince Henry Okojie, husband to popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson and a member representing Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at his residence.

The incident occurred on Friday, just a day before the Edo State gubernatorial election.

Prince Okojie, who is also the Edo Central Coordinator for the All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign, was saved thanks to the quick response of the police personnel attached to him.

Michael Ihaza, Prince Okojie’s media aide, confirmed the incident through a post on his Facebook page. He wrote, “Four men with a Rivers State plate number on a Lexus 470 drove into his compound disguised as policemen and tried to fire at the House of Representatives member this morning! Thank God they failed, and two were apprehended by our gallant officers attached to him.”

Ihaza strongly condemned the assassination attempt, warning those behind the attack. “Has it gotten to the point of making an attempt to assassinate Prince Odi Okojie? We strongly condemn this devilish act and are asking everyone involved to desist from it because a hit back won’t be funny! Don’t ever try it again!” he added.

Ihaza emphasized that the APC campaign has focused on peaceful political competition and warned against any future violent acts. He urged all parties to participate in the election peacefully, stating, “Let’s go and vote tomorrow quietly, and whoever wins shall be congratulated.”

The suspects involved in the attack are currently in police custody, making confessions, and further investigations are underway.
