The Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon.Lola Akande, has said Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, is courageous for refusing to be a victim of domestic violence.

The Commissioner said this while speaking with newsmen in Lagos.

“I must commend the courage of mercy, because what she did is what other women who are victims of domestic violence out there need to do, they don’t need to hide it except they want to die there,” said Akande.

She was bleeding from her nose and mouth and she had injuries that would require surgery, the commissioner added.

Akande expressed anger at the man who battered Aigbe’s face, inviting him to the authorities in charge of domestic violence in Lagos.

“He came on Tuesday to say his own side of the story,” she added.

“But any man that can beat a woman to a pulp like that…needs to have his head examined.”

She further urged women who are going through similar situations to speak out.
