The Niger State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Mubarak for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old Shamseen Danshehu to death in Minna, the state capital.

The incident happened on Sunday evening in the Kwangila area, where Mubarak, believed to be mentally unstable, got into a fight with Danshehu. During the scuffle, Mubarak reportedly stabbed him in the chest with scissors.

Residents in the area said they were unaware of what led to the fight, but they had often seen Mubarak moving around the streets, scavenging through refuse bins.

Danshehu was rushed to Minna General Hospital, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and arrest of the suspect.

“It was reported that one Mubarak, who is suspected of insanity and also scavenging around Kwangila, had a fight with a passerby, Shamseen Danshehu, 25, of the same area.

“During the fight, the said scavenger stabbed Shamseen in the chest with scissors.

“The victim was rushed to the general hospital but died before receiving treatment. The suspect has been arrested for further investigation,” Abiodun said.

The police are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
