Mentally challenged man electrocuted during illegal cable connection in Ondo

A mentally challenged man identified as Mayomi Origbemisuyi has been electrocuted while allegedly trying to make an illegal power cable connection in Ondo State.

The PUNCH reports that the incident occurred on Tuesday night at Akungba Akoko, in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state.

Residents said that the deceased was electrocuted a few meters away from the office of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company in the community.

According to a source who spoke on conditions of anonymity said the “Everybody in the area rushed to the scene to catch a glimpse of what happened and the matter was immediately reported at the police station in the community.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said, “The information we have is that the man was not mentally stable, but we have commenced investigation into the incident.”
