Men steal one-month-old baby in Imo, sell him to a childless couple in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command have arrested four people for buying and selling a month old baby, a statement said on Monday.

WuzupNigeria gathered that two men – 41 years old Mbama and 30 years old Ekwebele – stole the baby in Imo State.

The duo were alleged to have transported the baby from Imo to Lagos where they were intercepted by vigilant police officers.

Interrogation revealed that the baby had been sold to a childless couple Izuchukwu, 51, and Cecilia, 40.

The police statement said the alleged buyers had also been arrested.

The statement read,

“The suspects were intercepted by police Officers from Anthony Police Division, on enforcement duty at Anthony Oke pin down point.

“The officers stopped a Toyota Sienna SUV carrying seven passengers. The officers’ enquiries fuelled the suspicion that the baby was stolen.

“The suspects stated that they were coming from Orlu, Imo State. Further investigations revealed that the suspects had sold the baby to a childless couple in Lagos.

“The childless couples, Izuchukwu ‘m’ 51 years old and Cecilia ‘f’ 40 years old were arrested thereafter arrested after the suspects’ confession.”

The statement added that efforts have been made to hand over the baby to his parents.

It added,

“Recovered from the suspects was the baby’s original birth certificate and parents names.

“The baby’s biological parents have been traced and he would be handed over to his parents.

“The suspects are to be charged to Court.”
