Melaye accuses INEC of bias, calls commission ‘APC department’

A former Kogi West senator and prominent member of the African Democratic Congress, Dino Melaye, has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission, alleging that it now operates as an extension of the All Progressives Congress.

Melaye accused the electoral commission of demonstrating bias and wrongly interpreting a court ruling, raising concerns about its neutrality in electoral matters.

In a video shared on his X page, the ADC chieftain stated that the commission’s actions have weakened public trust in the institution.

He insisted that those responsible for the alleged actions should either be dismissed or voluntarily step down from their positions.

“We expect that the president will either sack or these people will sack themselves because INEC has misinterpreted the order of the court, they have shown partiality.

“They have shown that they are a department of APC, and we have lost confidence in them,” he said.

The remarks come amid rising tensions, as leaders of the ADC, led by factional Interim National Chairman David Mark, alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and others, staged a protest at the INEC headquarters over the delisting of the party.
