Ukpong said that the vision behind the state-owned hospital was to reverse medical tourism.

He said many patients that access the services of the hospital had received adequate solutions to their ailments.

The commissioner also said several consortia of medical firms, overseas and within, had indicated interest in managing the hospital.

He, however, assured that only the best firm would win the bid to carry out services at the hospital on a 24-hour basis, on referrals.

In his comment, the Acting Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Ini Etukudo, said that the hospital had witnessed a significant increase in the number of patients.

Etukudo said the hospital was established to fulfil its core mandate of reducing medical tourism in the country.
