The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has described the media as the last remaining hope for the ordinary Nigerian, in light of what it termed the failure of the three arms of government to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities.
Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre in Akure, the PDP emphasised the critical role of the media in holding those in power accountable, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress at both state and federal levels.
The party stressed that with the widespread economic hardship and growing insecurity across the country, the media must intensify scrutiny of government actions and policies.
According to the opposition party, the current economic situation has pushed many Nigerian families to the brink, as the cost of essential goods continues to rise sharply. It warned that unless the APC is constantly placed under public and media pressure, the delivery of democratic dividends will continue to elude the masses.
PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Leye Igbabo, criticised the performance of the APC-led administration under President Bola Tinubu, expressing concern over its impact on ordinary citizens.
“I am disappointed in the administration of the ruling party. Inflation is at an all-time high. Prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed, and people can no longer afford to feed their families,” Igbabo stated.
He also decried the recent wave of defections to the ruling party, attributing it to opportunism rather than genuine political ideology or principle.
