Mbappe waives huge bonuses to ease PSG exit – Report

Published

French forward Kylian Mbappe has reportedly forgone “several tens of millions” of euros to facilitate a potential departure from Paris Saint-Germain, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

The source according to AFP claims that, as part of an agreement made last summer, Mbappe waived bonuses, estimated at around 60 to 70 million euros ($65.6 million to $76.6 million), to financially assist the club in case he decides to leave when his contract ends in June.

While reports, including one from French daily Le Parisien, suggest loyalty bonuses totaling 100 million euros, the negotiating source denied these figures.

Mbappe, who is free to sign with any club since the transfer window opened, explained, “With the agreement I reached with the president this summer, whatever my decision, we managed to protect all parties and preserve the club’s peace of mind for the challenges to come – that’s the most important thing.”

The agreement ensures PSG’s financial coverage if Mbappe departs without a transfer fee. Despite speculations about the striker’s future, Mbappe asserted that he has not yet made a decision.

Le Parisien indicates that Mbappe’s 2022 contract secured him an annual salary of 72 million euros, a signing bonus of 150 million euros, and a loyalty bonus that increased from 70 million euros in the first year to 90 million in the third year.

By staying with PSG until June without extending his contract, Mbappe could potentially secure a payment exceeding 200 million euros, likely in the form of a substantial signing-on fee from any club he might join in the summer.

PSG has refrained from commenting on the matter, and there has been no immediate reaction from Mbappe’s entourage.
