Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has declared that he will never perform in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, again.
The artist made this announcement through his X page (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday morning, expressing his sentiments for other artists scheduled to perform in the city.
Mayorkun stated, “Calabar, you’ll probably never ever see me again, good luck to the other artists coming for your festivals though.”
Fans responding to his post in the comment section suggested that the singer was robbed while in Calabar, with some claiming that Mayorkun’s expensive necklace, valued at millions of naira, was stolen during the incident.
In response to the alleged robbery, fellow singer Iyanya took to social media to address the situation and appeal for the return of the stolen item.
He expressed disappointment in the incident and urged whoever was responsible to return the item to Mayorkun.
Quoting Mayorkun’s tweet, Iyanya wrote, “My Calabar people, this is very bad for the peaceful people I know us to be. The government has brought my colleagues to entertain you, all you owe them is protection and great hospitality.”
“If you know anyone who stole from my brother, please return it, and I will personally compensate you. Drop it at The Grand Hotel. I will personally compensate you, please.”
Mayorkun allegedly lost his luxurious diamond neck chain, reportedly worth millions of dollars, which was stolen in Calabar.
Reports circulating online now reveal that the singer’s chain was stolen amid the excitement of the crowd during his performance in his city.
It is alleged that the theft occurred when a mob rushed at him, and the chain was swiftly and discreetly taken.
