Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has praised Nigerian workers for their strong role in the country’s growth, calling them the “backbone of our development.”

In her Workers’ Day message on Thursday, the wife of the President thanked all professionals and labourers across the country for their dedication.

“I extend gratitude and congratulations to all Nigerian workers for your commitment to nation-building,” she said.

“May your efforts continue to yield fruit, and may we, as a nation, always uphold the value of your labour.”

She described this year’s May Day as a reminder of the importance of work and fairness in job opportunities.

“I salute the men and women who rise each day to go to work and support our economy,” she added.

Senator Tinubu noted that Nigerian workers, whether in government or private sectors, play a key role in keeping the country moving forward.

“Across all sectors, whether public or private, formal or informal, Nigerian workers remain the backbone of our development and the driving force behind our nation’s progress.

“I wish you all a happy Workers’ Day celebration and I pray that our beloved nation continues to prosper and grow in leaps and bounds,” she said.

May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, is marked every year on May 1 to honour the contributions and struggles of workers around the world. In Nigeria, it is a public holiday that celebrates people across all types of jobs, from teachers to truck drivers.
