Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United to join La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan.

The move comes after an attempted rape charge against the footballer was dropped earlier this year.

In a statement, Manchester United said the transfer would allow Greenwood to rebuild his career away from the club. The club also stated that it would continue to support Greenwood and his family during this transition period.

The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.“. The statement reads

Last month, Manchester United announced that Greenwood would not play for them again, citing difficulties with him recommencing his career at the club.

It was mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 and charged with attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior in October 2022.

However, in February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges against him due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light.

After the outcome of Manchester United’s internal investigation, Greenwood accepted responsibility for his mistakes and has always denied any criminal charges.
