Marvel Studios has officially announced the full cast for its upcoming blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday.
The film, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, is set to hit cinemas worldwide on May 1, 2026.
The announcement came during a special livestream event, where Marvel revealed a star-studded lineup featuring familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), X-Men characters, and new additions from Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts.
One of the biggest surprises was the confirmation of Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU—not as Iron Man but as the powerful villain Doctor Doom. His announcement was accompanied by the phrase, “It all leads to Doom.”
The cast includes several returning MCU stars, such as Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), and Winston Duke (M’Baku).
The livestream ended with an unexpected twist—Robert Downey Jr. appearing in a sharp suit, placing a finger over his lips in a “shhh” gesture. Fans were thrilled as Marvel confirmed that he will play Doctor Doom, marking his return to the MCU after his character, Tony Stark/Iron Man, was killed off in Avengers: Endgame.
Marvel Studios first announced Avengers: Doomsday at the San Diego Comic-Con, where they also revealed that a follow-up film, Avengers: Secret Wars, is scheduled for release on May 7, 2027.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo shared how challenging it was to assemble the massive cast. “We literally have a board with baseball cards of every Marvel actor and character,” Joe Russo said. “Now, they have magnets on them so we can move them around.”
