Marvel has decided to sever ties with the US actor Jonathan Majors after a guilty verdict in a criminal trial for assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.
Marvel had reportedly dropped him from all projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Majors, known for his role as Kang the Conqueror was expected to continue playing Kang in at least two more Marvel films, with the studio positioning him as a central character, akin to the role Thanos played in previous Marvel story arcs.
Sources with direct knowledge have confirmed to TMZ that Marvel, one of Disney’s major imprints, will not move forward with Jonathan Majors on any projects, effectively ending his tenure as Kang the Conqueror.
This decision has immediate repercussions for Majors, who has already portrayed the character in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ and two seasons of the Disney+ show ‘Loki.’
However, in light of the guilty verdict, Marvel is changing its course, and the upcoming ‘Avengers’ films, for which Majors was attached to reprise his role as Kang, will now take a different direction without him.
The decision to cut ties with Majors was reportedly made swiftly, mere hours after the jury delivered the verdict on two of the four counts he faced in his criminal trial.
Jonathan Majors was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment, while he was acquitted of intentional assault and aggravated harassment.
The charges stemmed from accusations of roughing up his ex-girlfriend in March.
Despite the guilty verdict, Majors’ attorney has hinted at the possibility of filing an appeal, expressing the intention to clear his client’s name.
