Popular Kannywood actress, Hafsat Tuge, has stated that marriage is not a part of her plans.
The moviestar spoken out against long-held societal biases that suggest female entertainers in the Hausa film industry are not suitable for marriage.
In an interview with the BBC, Tuge addressed the misconceptions that continue to shadow women in Kannywood, particularly regarding their roles as potential wives.
She noted that many people believe actresses are inherently disobedient, too proud, or incapable of being respectful partners—assumptions she believes are both outdated and unfounded.
“Kannywood actresses do get married,” she emphasized.
“The belief is that because we are in the movie industry, we won’t obey our husbands, or we won’t be loyal, or we are not respectful.”
Tuge argued that being in the public eye or financially independent does not strip a woman of traditional values. She stressed that actresses, like all women, yearn for love, respect, and stability in their personal lives. “The belief is that because we are in Kannywood, we are in money. But we are just like every other woman,” she added.
When asked about her personal stance on marriage, the actress remained candid. She explained that while she is open to the idea, she intends to marry on her own terms and when the time feels right. “I will get married at the right time. You know marriage is about time, but marriage is not in my plan,” she said.
Tuge’s remarks have sparked conversations online, with many applauding her for confronting long-standing stereotypes and championing the idea that women in the entertainment industry can balance both career and family life.
Known for her calm demeanor and strong screen presence, Hafsat Tuge continues to rise in the Kannywood scene, earning admiration for both her talent and her thoughtful, grounded perspectives off-screen.
