Mario Mandzukic bids farewell to AC Milan after goalless season
Former Bayern Munich striker, Mario Mandzukic, on Monday announced his departure from Serie A giant, AC Milan, after enduring a frustrating season without finding the back of the net.
The 35-year-old left without scoring a single goal having been reduced to just 11 appearances due to muscular problems.
The former Juventus star leaves at the end of his six-month contract which he earlier signed in January.
Bidding farewell to the Milan team, the former Juventus striker appreciated the club in a post on Instagram.
He wrote: “It was a pleasure to play for AC Milan. I am thankful to the club management for giving me the opportunity, to the coaching staff for their dedicated work and to my teammates who are not only excellent players but a great group of guys.
“I am happy that we have managed to get this great club back to Champions League where it belongs and I wish everybody at the club only the best in the future.”
Manchester United right-back, Diogo Dalot has also reflected on his time at Milan having helped them secure a Champions League qualification.
Dalot joined AC Milan on a season-long loan from Old Trafford last summer
He penned an appreciation message to the club via his Twitter handle following the end of his loan spell at the club.
It is however unclear if the club are willing to sign him permanently, otherwise, the Portuguese would return to Manchester.
He wrote: “New country, different experiences, same passion!
“What a season full of emotions, with new goals to achieve and new things to learn.
“It was a great year for me and a pleasure to be part of this team and this amazing club.
“So happy I could help the club get back to the Champions League.”
