Marchers protest El-Zakzaky’s detention (photos, video, audio)
A coalition of groups on Wednesday commenced a daily sit out to protest to protest the continued detention of the Shi’ite leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky. They vowed to continue the sit out indefinitely.
Tagged #FreeZakzaky, the sit out started at the Unity Fountain Abuja with participants circled around a very large flag of Green-White-Green with a very bold inscription of #FreeZakzaky in its middle in red.
There were also different banners and posters on display with different inscriptions.
Security officials in large numbers strategically took position with guns, clubs, sticks, teargas cannons, and hot water cannons, but the situation was peaceful all through.
Speaking at the sit out the convener of ConcernedNIG said Nigerians must stand up against injustices and oppression in the country.
He said, “They killed 1,000 Shiites, you said nothing because you are not a Shi’a.
“Then they arrested & locked up Zakzaky and his wife against Court Orders for 2yrs, you still said nothing. Fulani Herdsmen killed people in Benue, Taraba, Plateau etc and you said nothing because you are not from Benue.
“One day, somebody will come and arrest your pastor and Imam then kill your church members & others won’t talk. SPEAK UP.”
