Senegal captain, Sadio Mané, has announced that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was his final appearance at the continental tournament, bringing an emotional end to his AFCON journey.

Mané made this known after leading Senegal to victory at AFCON 2025, where the Teranga Lions defeated hosts Morocco 1–0 in the final played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Describing the moment as his final outing at the competition, the former African Footballer of the Year said he would continue to support the national team off the pitch.

“Unfortunately, this is my last dance at AFCON, but I will be the 12th man to support them,” Mané said.

The 33-year-old was named Player of the Tournament, winning the award for the second time after first claiming it at the 2021 edition.

Speaking to beIN Sports after the final, Mané also revealed his plans for full international retirement.

“I will try to play in the 2026 World Cup and then I will retire from international football,” he said.

Mané further spoke about his current form and playing environment, dismissing doubts about his competitiveness.

“The Saudi league is very competitive and very strong. People need to know that. It is one of the best leagues in the world,” he added.

During AFCON 2025, Mané played a key role in Senegal’s title run, recording two goals and three assists, while providing leadership throughout the tournament.

Mané has been a central figure in Senegal’s golden era, inspiring a new generation of players and helping the country secure multiple major honours on the continental stage.
